North Shore Rescue team successfully rescued a snowboarder stranded in precarious terrain at Cypress Mountain on Tuesday. The individual, who had initially fallen into a tree well, was saved without any injuries thanks to the coordinated efforts of NSR and Cypress Ski Patrol.
In a detailed account shared on social media, NSR recounted the intense hours-long rescue mission that unfolded in the steep and slippery surroundings. Search Manager Allan McMordie explained that the snowboarder first fell into a tree well before sliding down and becoming trapped under a tree root.
Following a distress call from the snowboarder’s friends and assistance from Cypress Ski Patrol, NSR swiftly responded. A skilled NSR rescuer descended to bring the stranded individual safely up to the ski hill, where ski patrol then transported her to the parking lot on a sled.
McMordie highlighted the fortunate outcome of the rescue, emphasizing that further descent could have led to severe injury. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of caution and preparedness when enjoying winter sports.
As winter sports-related accidents can have serious consequences, with recent data showing a significant number of hospitalizations and fatalities, visitors to ski resorts are urged to exercise vigilance. McMordie advised wearing micro spikes on boots to navigate icy terrain safely, especially during busy periods like upcoming long weekends.
