A mental health company in Ontario is facing a legal battle with the provincial government over accusations of fraudulent misrepresentation. Get A-Head Inc. and its parent company, Keel Digital Solutions, have recently responded to the government’s claims by filing a statement of defence and a counterclaim seeking $98 million in damages. The government alleges that the company inflated the number of counseling sessions provided through a student mental health program, resulting in overpayments and false reporting.
The ongoing lawsuit has also prompted an investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police following an audit on Keel’s funding from the Ministry of Colleges and Universities. In their defense, the company criticized the audit process as secretive and flawed, claiming that the government’s actions were intended to harm their reputation.
Keel Digital Solutions came under scrutiny for receiving funds from the Ministry of Labour’s Skills Development Fund, a program that has been criticized for lack of transparency. The company received $7.5 million for a first responder mental health program, despite concerns raised in a previous audit.
While allegations continue to be exchanged between the company and the government, none have been proven in court.
