Nearly a year has passed since a tragic accident on the Pattullo Bridge claimed the lives of three young men and injured another individual.
The incident, which involved a collision between a semi-truck and two other vehicles near the bridge’s east end, occurred around 10 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, prompting a swift response from authorities.
Surrey Police Service (SPS) has disclosed that the RCMP’s Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) is overseeing the investigation and is currently engaged in the initial stages of sharing information with Crown Counsel. Staff Sergeant Lindsey Houghton from SPS emphasized the complexity of such cases, requiring a blend of internal police expertise and external collaboration.
Investigators have highlighted the legal intricacies involved in the disclosure process, impacting the overall timeline of the investigation. The meticulous search for, acquisition, and analysis of physical, digital, and forensic evidence demand substantial resources, often leading to delays in resolving cases.
The devastating crash tragically claimed the lives of three men aged between 19 and 20, while the driver of the semi-truck, fortunately, escaped physical harm and cooperated with authorities at the scene.
Following an arrest and subsequent release of one of the involved drivers in March, authorities indicated that various factors, potentially including speed, may have contributed to the collision.
SPS urges anyone with relevant information regarding the accident to contact them at 604-599-0502, quoting file number 2025-12779.
