Thousands Expected to Join Anti-Government Rally in North York Tomorrow
A significant rally in solidarity with anti-government protests in Iran is set to bring large crowds to North York on Saturday. Toronto police anticipate over 200,000 attendees for a 3.8 km march along Yonge Street, prompting road closures and detours in the area.
Preparations are in place for major traffic disruptions from 8 a.m., with Yonge Street shutting down completely between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Police presence will be heightened to ensure safety during the event.
The TTC has announced that the 97 Yonge bus will be rerouted starting at 11 a.m., cautioning commuters about extensive traffic and transit delays until at least 6 p.m. Access to North York Centre Station will be limited due to anticipated high foot traffic, with potential station closures for crowd management.
A previous peaceful rally in downtown Toronto garnered massive participation earlier this month, reflecting ongoing support for the protests in Iran triggered by economic turmoil and demands for political reform.
