Toronto Police Launch Investigation into Threat Against Local Mosque

Toronto authorities are currently probing alarming threats directed at a local mosque and its members. The Toronto Islamic Centre (TIC) shared on social media that they received menacing phone calls from an unidentified individual, filled with racist language and explicit threats of violence.

During one call, the person referenced the tragic Christchurch mosque attack in New Zealand and ominously suggested that a similar incident could occur in Toronto. The TIC expressed their concerns over the disturbing nature of the calls, emphasizing the need for vigilance and safety.

The National Council for Canadian Muslims (NCCM) highlighted excerpts from the threatening calls on social media, shedding light on the severity of the situation. Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the threats, emphasizing that such actions go against the values of inclusivity and respect that Toronto upholds.

Mayor Chow underlined the city’s stance against violence, Islamophobia, and any form of hatred, reinforcing Toronto’s commitment to fostering a diverse and welcoming community for all.

The Toronto police have acknowledged the issue and assured that they are actively investigating the threats to ensure the safety and security of the mosque and its members.
