Tragic Collision Near Canada-U.S. Border Claims Lives of Two, Leaves Two In Critical Condition
A devastating head-on collision between two vehicles near the Canada-U.S. border in Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle, Montérégie, has resulted in the loss of two lives and left two others fighting for survival in the hospital.
The incident occurred on Route 202, close to Rang Saint-Claude, prompting an immediate response from emergency services on Saturday afternoon. According to Sergeant Valérie Beauchamp of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the collision occurred when two vehicles traveling in opposite directions collided head-on, leading to the deaths of a 61-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman who were in one of the vehicles.
The occupants of the second vehicle, both in their thirties, sustained serious injuries and remain in critical condition, though they have been stabilized in the hospital, as confirmed by Sergeant Beauchamp in a telephone interview the following morning.
The stretch of Route 202 where the tragic collision took place had to be closed for approximately two hours to allow SQ reconstructionists to investigate and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance while driving.
