“PM Carney Convenes with Former Liberal MP in Terrebonne Amidst Political Upheaval Following Supreme Court’s Election Bombshell”

Prime Minister Mark Carney held a meeting today with former Liberal MP Tatiana Auguste in the Terrebonne riding, following the Supreme Court’s decision to nullify her election win last spring.

Auguste had been declared the victor in Terrebonne by a single vote over Bloc Québécois candidate Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné after the April 28 election. However, Sinclair-Desgagné contested the results when a supporter alleged that her mail-in ballot had not been counted.

Carney and Auguste engaged with locals at a cozy restaurant in Terrebonne, Quebec, just north of Montreal, where patrons cheered her on.

The Canadian Press later interviewed Terrebonne residents, including Nadia Poirier, a volunteer for the Bloc candidate during the spring election. Poirier advocated for a new byelection, emphasizing the importance of counting every vote to maintain democratic principles.

Justo Rocha, hailing from Nicaragua, echoed the sentiment, stressing the significance of each vote in a democracy, citing his personal experience in a country without such liberties.

Earlier in the day, Carney made an announcement in Montreal about Canada’s inaugural defense industrial strategy.
