In response to the Commission Gallant report on the troubled digital transformation at the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), the Quebec government has announced measures to address the findings. A special oversight committee will be established to implement the commission’s recommendations and restore public trust.
Treasury Board President France-Élaine Duranceau, Transport Minister Jonatan Julien, and Cybersecurity and Digital Technology Minister Gilles Bélanger disclosed plans for the committee, which will be led by the Treasury Board Secretariat. Representatives from relevant ministries will collaborate to create a roadmap for necessary changes and ensure consistency in governance.
Duranceau emphasized the need for a cleanup to rebuild public confidence, stating that Quebecers deserve better governance and accountability. Meanwhile, the SAAQ has issued a public apology and committed to significant restructuring efforts following the acknowledgment of failures in its digital transformation initiative.
Quebec’s premier is exploring potential legal actions against SAAQ executives after the report revealed discrepancies in cost reporting. The government is also evaluating legal remedies against individuals and companies involved in the project to address the issues highlighted in the report.
