Negotiations between the Quebec government and specialist doctors remain deadlocked as they struggle to reach a consensus.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Treasury Board Chair France-Élaine Duranceau revealed that both parties were at an impasse regarding the salary dispute.
Specialists in the medical field are pushing for a significant 17% raise in their overall compensation package.
Expressing his stance on the matter, Premier François Legault deemed the specialists’ salary hike demands as exceedingly unreasonable.
Earlier in the day, the Quebec Federation of Medical Specialists (FMSQ) announced that due to the lack of progress, its members were left with no alternative but to resort to action.
Although the doctors plan to employ pressure tactics, the FMSQ assured that patient care would not be impacted by these measures, as stated in a press release.
The existing agreement with medical specialists expired on March 31, 2023.
