Toronto’s New Subway Line: Opening Date Uncertain but Expected in Early 2030s
The province of Ontario remains cautious about committing to a specific opening date for the new subway line currently being constructed in Toronto. Metrolinx CEO Michael Lindsay has indicated that the Ontario Line is projected to be operational by the early 2030s, potentially extending beyond the initial target of 2031. Lindsay explained that the testing phase of new transit lines plays a crucial role in determining the official opening dates.
Moreover, Lindsay revealed that preparations for the new subway may lead to the temporary closure of the Don Valley Parkway to facilitate the construction of necessary bridges. Both Lindsay and Premier Doug Ford confirmed that construction has commenced on the elevated segment of the subway line, marking significant progress in the infrastructure development.
Furthermore, the construction of four new stations is set to kick off, indicating a substantial advancement in expanding Toronto’s public transit network.
