Winter Storm Causes School Bus Cancellations in Toronto and Surrounding Areas
A winter storm blanketing Toronto and the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) has led to widespread school bus cancellations on Wednesday. The storm, which brought freezing rain, snow, and icy roads, has created hazardous conditions for the morning commute.
While schools in Toronto and the GTA are open, the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) has announced school closures for Wednesday. Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for the region.
The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) was the first to cancel transportation for the day, citing weather-related delays and deteriorating conditions. The Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) also suspended all bus services due to the expected freezing rain and icy roads.
Following suit, the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) and Student Transportation of Peel Region (STOPR) cancelled all transportation services for the day. Similarly, Durham officials and Halton boards have cancelled transportation across their respective zones.
Despite the cancellations, schools in these regions remain open, and classes are continuing as scheduled. Hamilton’s HWDSB has shut down schools for the day, while Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) announced that school buses are cancelled but schools are open.
