A 19-year-old man from Markham has been arrested by York Regional Police in connection with a street robbery linked to a fraudulent concert ticket sale that was arranged through a popular Chinese social media platform.
The incident took place on February 4 when a woman reported being in contact with a seller on Redbook, a Chinese social media and e-commerce platform, to purchase concert tickets. They arranged to meet at a commercial plaza near Apple Creek and Town Centre boulevards in Markham. However, upon the victim’s arrival, the suspect allegedly brandished a knife and demanded money before fleeing the scene in a white 2025 Mercedes-Benz sedan.
After an investigation, detectives apprehended and charged Pui Hin Lee, 19, of Markham with robbery on February 12. Concerns have been raised that there may be additional victims who fell prey to similar online transactions.
Authorities have shared images of the suspect, urging anyone with relevant information or who may have interacted with the suspect to come forward and assist in the case.
