The Grouse Grind Trail on North Shore Closes Due to Winter Conditions
The Grouse Grind trail on the North Shore had a short-lived reopening earlier this month but has now closed again. The Metro Vancouver Regional District announced on Thursday that the challenging trail is shut due to hazardous winter conditions.
After a brief reopening on February 5, when warm temperatures prevailed across British Columbia, the trail had to be closed again as temperatures dropped, and snowfall was predicted for higher elevations.
The MVRD attributed the closure to both the snowfall and upcoming maintenance work, stating that these conditions are unsafe for public access. A spokesperson mentioned to 1130 NewsRadio that the closure is expected to last until late March, after which the conditions will be reassessed following trail maintenance.
While the Grouse Grind is closed, the nearby BCMC Route remains open, although hikers are advised to be cautious as snow and icy conditions are expected.
