Expert Confirms: Firearms in Photo Shared by Tumbler Ridge Shooter’s Mother Were Legally Owned

In a tragic turn of events, a photo shared on Facebook by the mother of the Tumbler Ridge shooter showcased various firearms, including a semi-automatic rifle that was later banned in Canada. The photo, posted by Jennifer Jacobs in August 2024, depicted a cabinet filled with guns, sparking concerns about their legality.

Frank Grosspietsch, a former RCMP officer and firearms expert, noted that all the firearms in the photo were legal at the time, with three rifles appearing to be semi-automatic. The photo raised questions about whether any of these guns were used in the devastating incident where Jacobs and her son were among the victims.

While the RCMP declined to confirm details about the seized firearms, it’s unclear if the guns in the photo were involved in the tragic events. The community was left in shock after the shooter, 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar, took the lives of eight individuals before ending her own.

The ban on certain firearms, including the Kriss Vector rifle seen in the photo, was implemented in December 2024 to address concerns about assault-style weapons. The investigation into the incident continues, shedding light on the regulations surrounding gun ownership in Canada.
