Driver dies of injuries after rollover crash in Surrey

A young man has died after crashing a vehicle into a ditch on a rural road near South Surrey Sunday night.

The Surrey Police Service says it responded to reports of a vehicle that had rolled over into a water-filled ditch along 168 Street north of 40 Avenue around 9:30 p.m.

“SFS firefighters were able to remove the driver, a man in his 20s and the lone occupant of the car, and they, along with BCEHS paramedics, administered life-saving measures,” police described Monday morning.

But they say the man later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Images from the scene of the crash show emergency crews barricading 168 Street and using a ladder to bridge the gap between the road and the vehicle, which had rolled on its side and was submerged in water.

Police are now investigating the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Witnesses, or anyone who may have captured dashcam video in the area, are asked to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 25-17735 (SP).
