SPVM conducting searches in connection with death of Nooran Rezayi, 15, in Longueuil

Montreal police (SPVM) are conducting searches on Thursday as part of its parallel investigation into the events that preceded the death of Nooran Rezayi, the 15-year-old who was shot dead by a Longueuil police officer last September.

The SPVM announced in a statement it is conducting searches in several locations on Montreal’s South Shore, including Belœil, Brossard, Candiac, Longueuil and Saint-Philippe.

Nooran was shot by police Sept. 21, 2025, in the Saint-Hubert borough of Longueuil.

The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) is conducting the investigation into the police intervention itself, while the SPVM has been given the mandate to look into the events that preceded it.

The SPVM did not specify the exact nature of the searches. They merely stated that “the investigation is ongoing.”

On the afternoon of Sept. 21, Longueuil police (SPAL) officers responded to a 911 call regarding a group of potentially armed youths in a public place.

According to initial information released by the BEI, the only firearm seized at the scene belonged to a police officer.

Nooran’s family is suing the City of Longueuil and officers of its police service in civil court for $2.2 million, alleging that SPAL officers used “unreasonable and disproportionate” force by opening fire “extremely quickly” on the teenager twice.
