Lapu-Lapu Day victim using dance to help heal, a year after tragedy

One of the people injured in last year’s Lapu-Lapu Day car-ramming attack is speaking out about his road to recovery for the first time.

Joshua Candelaria suffered multiple injuries in the April 26, 2025, incident that killed 11 people and left dozens hurt.

Those injuries included a broken arm, ruptured organs, and some spinal damage.

Candelaria is a dancer by trade, both as a teacher and as a performer.

And once he was released from hospital last summer, he returned to his craft, which he says has helped him heal.

This included attending an audition at John Oliver Secondary School, near the site where the attack happened.

Candelaria says he has appreciated the outpouring of support from Filipinos around the world and the broader community.

And he continues to use his passion to help him in his healing journey.
