A construction worker was seriously injured while working at the Langley Events Centre Monday morning, according to Township of Langley Mayor Eric Woodward.
Woodward says the worker fell down a ventilation shaft on the outside and suffered a fractured leg.
“[The worker] was conscious and communicative while being rescued,” he said.
“He was extracted in less than an hour and taken to hospital by BC Ambulance.”
BC Emergency Health Services says the patient was in serious but stable condition.
Sgt. Zynal Sharoom of the Langley RCMP says police were called to the site around 8 a.m.
“At this time, there does not appear to be any criminality; however, we are working alongside WorkSafeBC to determine the factors that led up to this incident,” Sharoom said.
WorkSafeBC confirms it attended the scene but says it is not able to provide any more information.
