SQ investigates possible 7th femicide in Quebec after woman dies in Saint-Jérôme

Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is investigating the suspicious death of a woman in a residence in Saint-Jérôme, in the Laurentians.

Few details have been released following this macabre discovery so as not to interfere with the ongoing investigation, which has been transferred to the SQ’s crimes against persons investigation team.

According to initial reports, Saint-Jérôme police officers were called to the scene late Friday afternoon.

“At the scene, police officers discovered an unconscious woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene,” said Laurie Avoine, SQ spokesperson, on Saturday morning.

“A man who was at the scene was taken to a hospital. He will be interviewed by investigators when his condition allows,” Avoine said.

The man is not considered a suspect at this time.

It was not possible to determine the nature of the victim’s injuries, whether a weapon had been used, or whether the individuals at the residence were known to police.

SQ investigators and forensic technicians were called to the scene to analyze it.

The SQ investigation is ongoing, and there is also a coroner’s investigation.
