Partner charged with murder after missing woman’s remains found in Maple Ridge

A man has been charged with second-degree murder after investigators found the remains of his partner, Jessica Cunningham, in their shared Maple Ridge home last August.

Forty-three-year-old Cunningham was last seen in early June and first reported missing in July 2025. Police were unable to confirm the identity of the remains found in the house on Gillis Place on Aug. 26 until early September — over a week later.

Shortly after, Cunningham’s partner, Mylie Andre Barron, was charged with indignity to human remains.

When police announced the charge against Barron, they said he had been in an intimate relationship with Cunningham, but it was too early to say if her disappearance involved intimate partner violence.

In an update Wednesday, the BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) confirmed the additional charge of second-degree murder.

“The date of the alleged offence is June 4, 2025, at or near Maple Ridge,” the BCPS added.

The Lower Mainland’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is expected to address the media about the charge at 2 p.m.
