Residents of Dollard-des-Ormeaux will soon be able to hop on a BIXI Montreal bike closer to home. The bike-sharing program confirmed it will roll out service in the West Island city this summer, making it the first municipality in the area to get Bixi.
About 60 bikes, 30 electric and 30 regular, will be installed at seven stations across the centre and eastern parts of the city. The network expansion is expected to be ready for residents by summer 2026.
Eftyhia Volakakis, a spokesperson for Mayor Alex Bottausci, told CityNews in a statement:
“Council is very excited to add 7 stations of 60 Bixi bikes in total in the Center and East part of it’s territory. From the 60 bikes, 30 are electric and 30 are manual. The installation of the stations will be finalized and ready for residents to use in the summer of 2026. These stations were strategically placed to facilitate access to the REM for our residents.”
Bixi currently operates across all boroughs of Montreal and several nearby municipalities, including Laval, Longueuiland Boucherville.
While the new stations are partly aimed at helping residents connect to the Réseau express métropolitain, riders may have to wait until at least 2027 before Bixi stations appear at the Fairview–Pointe-Claire REM Station and Des Sources REM Station on the future Anse-à-l’Orme branch.
Regional officials are also studying a proposed cycling corridor along the REM route that would connect bike paths to stations across the network, though that project is still years away.
