On March 10, get ready for some sharp laughs for a good cause right here at COOP Bar Milton Park.
Montreal comedians Sadie Moland and Sarah Warren are producing a show called Sadie and Sarah Solve the Housing Crisis, inspired by Sadie’s own experience being forced out of her Verdun apartment after a fire in 2024.
“It’s made me aware of a lot of different issues we have, and it’s also made me aware of the incredible tenant rights organizations that exist in the city, such as SLAM and CACV, and those are the ones we’re raising money for with this comedy show,” said Moland.
Moland’s Verdun apartment was heavily damaged by water, and she has been unable to move back in since 2024.
“My neighbors and I expected to be out of that building for a few months while they did repairs in 2024. Now we’re in 2026, and my landlord has just delayed the repairs, hoping that we would leave so that he could raise the rent and bring new tenants in,” said Moland.
The goal is to raise money for local tenants’ rights groups SLAM MATU and CACV and shine a light on the challenges renters face in Montreal.
“I didn’t necessarily feel supported by the structures and government in place to help me, like my landlord and, of course, the legal system that did it now, these are all very long processes to get you the help that you need, but I felt very supported by my community. So that was all very inspirational with organizing community-based events like the comedy show I’m putting on,” said Moland.
Warren added, “I’ve moved all the time every two years forever and ever and ever, so like housing instability is something that I really understand.”
“Montrealers should come to our show to help us raise all the money that we possibly can,” said Warren.
Moland added, “It’s gonna be a really fun night, we’ve got a raffle too with a bunch of sponsors that have donated prizes for the raffle, so it’s gonna be really fun. It’s a serious topic, but it’s just gonna be a lot of fun.”
