Police swarm Burnaby street, fail to find ‘armed and dangerous’ suspect

The Metro Vancouver Transit Police (MVTP) have begun to share details about why multiple police forces, including armoured units, descended on a Burnaby intersection Thursday night.

Police reportedly believed a man with an outstanding warrant was inside a vehicle spotted around 7:30 p.m. near East Hastings Street and Ingleton Avenue.

The MVTP says the suspect was considered armed and dangerous.

The Burnaby RCMP, VPD and Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team arrived to search the vehicle, but “the suspect was not located inside and he remains outstanding.”

Images from the scene show several police vehicles, dogs, and officers surrounding a stopped Mercedes van with shattered driver-side and back windows.

Police shut down roads in the area for multiple hours, but they have since reopened.
