Bed bugs lead to temporary closure of Westmount Public Library

The Westmount Public Library has been temporarily closed after inspections found evidence of bed bugs in multiple areas of the building.

City officials say an initial inspection on March 6 detected bed bugs in parts of the library. A follow-up inspection Monday uncovered additional traces beyond the adult computer section, prompting the decision to shut down the entire facility for treatment.

The building will remain closed while extermination work is carried out.

Officials say inspections conducted at Victoria Hall and the Heritage Greenhouses found no evidence of bed bugs, and both locations remain open to the public.

The closure does not affect the library’s digital services, including access to e-books and online databases. City officials say updates will be provided as the treatment process continues.
