Burnaby school placed under brief lockdown after reported threat, police say

Police say they placed Burnaby North Secondary School under lockdown for about an hour Monday due to a reported threat.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the school was initially placed into lockdown,” the Burnaby RCMP said.

The school is located at 751 Hammarskjold Drive in Burnaby.

Officers initiated the measure shortly before 1 p.m. and lifted it sometime before 2:30 p.m.

Police add that officers have cleared the school and currently do not believe there is a credible threat.

The Burnaby RCMP says officers will remain on scene to investigate.

Last month, schools in Coquitlam were briefly placed under hold-and-secure measures due to reported alleged threats.
