Man charged after allegedly brandishing a firearm in a Surrey business

A man has been charged after allegedly entering a business in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood and wielding a firearm.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m. Saturday, officers were called to the business, located in the area of 76th Avenue near 130th Street, after a report of a man walking in with a firearm.

Police say the man was being held by staff when they arrived. An employee had taken away the firearm.

A 45-year-old man has been charged with one count of uttering threats, one count of pointing a firearm, one count of using a firearm while uttering threats, and one count of carelessly transporting a firearm.

He is scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on April 1.

No injuries have been reported.
