CDN-NDG to install new parking metres on Sherbrooke St. West before summer

The borough of Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (CDN-NDG) is adding new parking meters on Sherbrooke Street West starting in the spring of 2026, aiming to improve parking availability, support commercial vitality and promote better vehicle rotation on this key axis.

This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Agence de la mobilité durable (sustainable mobility agency), which is responsible for the installation, operation, and road marking of the new tariffed zones.

The project will cover the section of Sherbrooke Street West between Grand Blvd. and Hampton Ave., as well as from Wilson Ave. to the eastern limit of the borough, representing approximately 200 parking spaces.

To avoid any negative effects for nearby residential areas that offer free spaces, the borough will also add 247 other parking meters on the beginnings of the cross streets in the identified sector.

“The addition of parking meters on Sherbrooke Street West is a responsible and thoughtful decision that will allow for better management of on-street parking spaces,” said acting CDN-NDG mayor Sonny Moroz. “In addition, the new revenues will allow us to invest to further revitalize this artery. We will make sure to support the merchants in the area and will monitor the rate of use of parking lots. We will not hesitate to make corrections or modifications, if necessary.”

New parking metres to be installed before summer

The borough says that the project aims, among other things, to improve the availability of parking spaces for customers, neighbours, and visitors to the area, as well as help support local businesses by promoting proper vehicle rotation and reduce traffic congestion related to parking search times.

This decision is based on the analysis of space occupancy data as well as information obtained by the sustainable mobility agency on drivers who park in the area. The data shows that, unlike free parking, parking fees encourage increased turnover, making spaces available to a greater number of motorists visiting the area.

The new parking meters will be installed before the start of the summer season.

At the same time, the borough will review reserved spaces (deliveries, reduced mobility, taxis), safety clearances (5 metres at intersections) and remove existing parking signage for a maximum of 60 minutes when necessary.

The borough will devote a portion of the revenues generated by the new parking meters to the financing of collective projects aimed at revitalizing Sherbrooke Street West. These initiatives will be carried out in collaboration with the Association des gens d’affaires de Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (BIZ NDG), to strengthen the attractiveness and economic vitality of the sector.
