Several Montreal schools closed Wednesday due to freezing rain

With an ice storm on the way for Montreal Wednesday, some school boards have already announced closures.

The significant freezing rain event – leading to 20-30 millimetres of ice accumulation – is expected to impact Montreal and several regions of Quebec.

The freezing rain is forecasted to begin in the early hours of Wednesday and continue into Thursday.

As a result, the following schools or school boards have already announced closures.

Residents are being urged to avoid non-essential travel and use extreme caution when walking or driving during the storm.

Officials warn the weight of ice could cause significant damage to trees and buildings. They also say transportation delays, cancellations and prolonged power outages are likely.

Cold temperatures after the storm could also delay recovery and the return to normal services.
