Authorities say they received a 911 call shortly before 2 p.m. reporting a body in the water near the area of 44th Ave. and Saint-Joseph Blvd. in the Lachine borough. Police say firefighters were already at the scene when officers arrived and were working to retrieve the woman from the river.
The woman, believed to be about 36 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police established a security perimeter in the area so investigators could examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials say the cause of death has not yet been determined, and the investigation remains ongoing.
