Zipline, tree canopy walk proposed for Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Park

The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation is set to decide on Monday to install a new attraction in the city’s Queen Elizabeth Park.

Two attractions are in the run: a zipline and a tree canopy walk.

Commissioners say that the board is exploring new revenue options with the hope that either of the attractions would serve this purpose.

If the board approved the Zipline proposal, it would turn the clock back to 2015 when the park last featured an aerial runway.

The idea is to install the cable near the duck pond in the park.

The location would allow for a downhill run from the north, giving zipliners a view of the city’s skyline and the North Shore mountains.

The other proposal, a tree canopy walk, would build platforms and suspension bridges between about mature trees in the arboretum.

This idea is being pitched by the operators of the Greenheart Tree Walk at the UBC Botanical Garden.

The board’s meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., and the proposals are the first point of tonight’s agenda.
