B.C. home sales market struggles in February across all regions

The B.C. Real Estate Association says the latest home sales numbers show the market “continues to struggle” across all regions of the province.

The association says just over 4,500 residential units were sold across the province last month, down almost 10 per cent from the same period last year.

The average residential price on the Multiple Listing Service in B.C. also fell 2.9 per cent to about $932,000, while dollar sales volumes were $4.21 billion, a drop of 12.3 per cent.

Association chief economist Brendon Ogmundson says the real estate industry hopes “improved affordability conditions in most regions and stable rates will motivate prospective demand to enter the market” and boost sales for the rest of 2026.

The sharpest unit sales drop was in Powell River, where sales slid almost 35 per cent from last year, while Chilliwack fell 31 per cent and the Kootenays saw a 29 per cent drop.

Greater Vancouver, meanwhile, saw just over 1,600 unit sales last month for a drop of almost 9 per cent compared with the same period last year.
