Suspected arson destroys two vehicles in St-Léonard

Two vehicles were reduced to charred wreckage early Friday after a fire believed to be intentionally set in Saint‑Léonard.

The blaze was reported around 2 a.m. when a 911 caller alerted Montreal police (SPVM) to burning vehicles on D’Antibes Street near De L’Aiglon Street in Montreal.

Responding officers found a pickup truck and an SUV already engulfed in flames. Crews from the city’s fire department quickly put out the fire before it could spread.

Residents living in nearby apartments were temporarily asked to leave their units as a safety precaution while emergency crews worked. They were allowed to return once the situation was under control.

Authorities say both vehicles were completely destroyed, though surrounding buildings were not damaged and no injuries were reported.

Early findings suggest someone used an incendiary substance to ignite the vehicles before leaving the scene. The investigation has been taken over by the police department’s arson unit.
