Snow and gusty winds hit Montreal; more flurries expected Sunday

Montrealers woke up to a snowy start Saturday as a late-winter system moved across the region, bringing fresh accumulation and strengthening winds.

Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasts about five centimetres of snow through the day. Winds from the southwest at 20 km/h gusting to 40 will shift to the west this afternoon and strengthen to 40 km/h with gusts up to 60.

The daytime high will reach plus 2 Celsius, with a low UV index.

Periods of snow are expected to end this evening before skies gradually clear. Winds from the west at 30 km/h gusting to 50 will ease later tonight. The temperature will drop to minus-8 C, with wind chill making it feel like minus-8 this evening and minus-14 overnight.

Cloud cover will increase again Sunday before snow begins in the afternoon. About two centimetres of accumulation is expected locally.

Winds will become easterly at 20 km/h with gusts to 40 late in the afternoon. The daytime high will be minus-1 C, though wind chill will make it feel closer to minus-10. The UV index will be 3, or moderate.

Periods of snow are expected to continue Sunday night with a low of minus-1 C.
