Spring weather may not yet be apparent in Montreal, but the city will nonetheless begin its annual cleaning routine.
The City of Montreal says operations will start earlier this year and will also finish later in the season. Mechanical sweepers will be ready to do the job as of Tuesday, while sidewalk-cleaning machines will be in operation in a few weeks.
Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada says keeping the city clean remains top priority, echoing commitments she made during the election campaign.
A press conference is scheduled for Monday. The president of the executive committee, Claude Pinard, and the executive committee member responsible for cleanliness and services to the population, Luis Miranda, will be in attendance to discuss the logistics of the operation.
The City of Montreal has announced a potential pilot project in La Fontaine Park this summer in which all garbage cans would be removed and replaced with large recycling bins installed on the streets at the park’s exits.
The project’s main goal is to eliminate trash found throughout the park and encourage people to dispose of their garbage before leaving.
This project began under the administration of Valérie Plante. The City of Montreal will announce the outline of its Spring Plan for a Cleaner City later Monday.
