Arson at Ville-Marie barbershop under investigation

A barbershop in Ville-Marie was targeted in an arson attack on Monday night.

Montreal police (SPVM) were called at around 2 a.m. to a fire that had started in a business on De Maisonneuve Blvd. West, near Bishop Street.

When officers arrived, the fire had already been extinguished by an employee who was on site at the time of the incident. The building sustained minor damage.

No injuries were reported.

Officials say the suspect smashed the shop’s window, entered the building, and attempted to set it on fire before fleeing the scene on foot.

The investigation has been handed over to the SPVM’s arson unit. Police have interviewed witnesses, but no arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing.
