Montreal’s municipal professionals launched a one-day strike Monday, denouncing what they call a non-negotiable wage offer from the city.
The Syndicat des professionnelles et professionnels municipaux de Montréal (SPPMM) says it marks the union’s first strike in a bargaining context since its creation in 1965.
Union members are calling for wage increases to keep pace with inflation, saying their purchasing power has dropped by 12 per cent since their collective agreement expired.
