Convicted contract killer sentenced to life in prison for 2017 Surrey murder

A man convicted in a 2017 contract killing south of the Fraser River was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday.

Brandon Teixeira was found guilty of first-degree murder and discharging firearm with intent in the murder of Nicholas Khabra in South Surrey. He was also charged with the attempted murder of a second person, who survived.

In September of 2018, an arrest warrant was issued for Teixeira for the 2017 murder, but he was able to evade police during an attempt to arrest him.

On Dec. 1, 2019, investigators from Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia and Integrated Homicide Investigation Team partnered with the RCMP Liaison Officer and U.S. law enforcement on information which led to Brandon Teixeira’s arrest in Oroville, Calif.

On April 24, 2020, Teixeira was extradited back to Canada where he remained in custody until his trial.

Teixeira’s lawyers filed a Jordan application, seeking a stay of the charges on the basis that delays in the case violated his Charter rights. Those attempts were dismissed.

On Wednesday, the B.C. Supreme Court handed Teixeira two sentences.

For Khabra’s murder, he was sentenced to madatory life imprisonment with no chance of parole for 25 years.

For the attempted murder, he received an additional sentence of 14 years imprisonment.

The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia CFSEU-BC says the sentencing is the culmination of “relentless investigative work.”
