Gusty winds expected across Metro Vancouver; power outages possible

Residents across Metro Vancouver are being warned to prepare for strong, gusty winds over the next couple days.

Wind gusts up to 70 kilometres per hour are expected, according to a special weather statement issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada.

The statement says the wind will pick up across the region — including in Vancouver, Burnaby, and New Westminster — starting late Monday afternoon.

Strong gusts could result in loose objects being tossed around and broken tree branches, the weather service says.

“Local utility outages are possible,” it said.

“Disruptions to services and travel are possible.”

Winds will ease late Thursday morning, according to the statement.
