Another cycling season is getting underway as Quebec’s BIXI network launches on April 15.
BIXI officials say the network will feature more stations, more bikes, and a season pass available two weeks earlier than usual.
“We all recognize the success of BIXI, which is now present throughout the Island of Montreal, in the metropolitan area, and recognized internationally,” said said Montreal Mayor Soroya Martinez Ferrada. “We are proud to be able to count on a service like this to facilitate travel and promote Montreal internationally.”
The company is also set to expand to six new cities, with further enhancements planned across the network.
“We see it, summer and winter, many Montrealers use BIXI to get around. Our goal is to offer a safe, smooth cycling network adapted to the reality of our neighbourhoods,” said Alan DeSousa, elected official responsible for mobility and infrastructure at the City of Montreal. Whether for residents or tourists, BIXI allows you to discover the city differently, in a new light.”
The season pass will provide access to a network already widely deployed across the region and will cover all 13 cities by April 15. Electric bikes are also returning, and BIXI trailers will be available starting April 15, accommodating an even wider range of trips.
In 2025, Sherbrooke, Saint-Eustache, Deux-Montagnes, and Saint-Lambert joined the network.
The number of municipalities served has more than doubled, growing from nine to 19, including Laval, Longueuil, Sherbrooke, Westmount, Mount Royal, Montreal East, Boucherville, Sainte-Julie, and Terrebonne. The network is expected to exceed 1,100 stations by the end of 2026, with more than 13,000 bicycles, 25 per cent of which will be electric-assist.
Between Nov. 16, 2025, and March 31, 2026, users were able to take advantage of an active winter transportation service across 10 participating boroughs of Montreal, as well as Westmount and Montreal East.
“The results of the winter season demonstrate that bike sharing meets a real need for mobility throughout the year,” said Christian Vermette, CEO of BIXI. “This observed growth also confirms the enthusiasm of users and the growing role of BIXI in the public transport ecosystem.”
