The skyline in Laval is quickly transforming, as the city emerges as one of the busiest construction zones in North America.
City officials say Laval now ranks third on the continent for active construction cranes, behind Toronto and Los Angeles.
At its peak last summer, there were 33 cranes operating across the city. That number has since dipped slightly to 24, but could rise again with the warmer months ahead.
The boom is being driven by unprecedented residential development, concentrated in what is expected to become Laval’s future downtown core.
Last year, more than 4,600 housing units were launched – more than double the year before – with nearly 90 per cent of those units destined for the rental market.
Projects include high-rise residential towers, some reaching up to 25 storeys, as the city looks to add roughly 54,000 new housing units over the next decade.
