Montreal blue-collar workers’ strike: essential services deemed sufficient

Quebec’s Administrative Labour Tribunal (TAT) has approved the list of essential services agreed upon by the employer and the union for the three-day strike planned by Montreal’s blue-collar workers in mid-April.

The strike is scheduled to take place from 6 a.m. on April 15 to 6 a.m. on April 18.

The tribunal ruled that the essential services agreed upon by both parties are sufficient to avoid jeopardizing public health or safety.

For example, regarding garbage collection, regular crews will operate on April 15 in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough. For other boroughs, the tribunal notes that these collections are primarily outsourced.

However, several other services will be affected by the strike, with reduced staff, on call or “as needed.”
