Montreal police investigate suspicious vehicle fire in Verdun

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating a suspicious vehicle fire in the city’s Verdun borough early Friday morning.

Police say they received a 911 call around 1:15 a.m. reporting a car on fire near Godin and Bannantyne Streets.

When the time police arrived, the blaze had spread to another car part nearby.

Residents from a neighbouring building were evacuated out of precaution. But, after an assessment by firefighters they were able to return.

The building was not damaged. No injuries were reported.

“Firefighters believe it is possible that an incendiary substance was thrown on one of the cars,” said Manuel Couture, a spokesperson for SPVM.

The two vehicles have been towed for forensic analysis. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
