Ministry of Transportation says it is investigating after an overpass strike on Highway 1 near Langley on Thursday afternoon.
Just after 3:30 p.m., a flat deck truck carrying heavy machinery struck the overpass at 264th Street.
Details are limited but the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) has stated that it is investigating after a strike in the right westbound lane.
Pictures obtained through DriveBC of the overpass at the time showed a black semi-truck hauling a dump truck stopped just outside of the overpass after they announced the impact had been cleared.
In 2023, the province of B.C. introduced heavier fines for vehicles striking overpasses, raising the previous fine amount from $115 to $575 and requiring trucks to be outfitted with in-cab warning devices by June 1, 2024.
According to the Commercial Vehicle Bridge/Overpass Crash Report, in 2025 there were 17 overpass related incidents reported in B.C.
