Third Montreal-area Walmart to close as Dorval store set to shut in July

Walmart is closing another store in the Montreal region, with its Dorval location scheduled to shut down in July, marking the third closure announced this month.

The company says employees affected by the move will be offered positions at nearby stores.

Walmart Canada told CityNews in a statement:

“We’re always focused on how to best serve our customers, including evaluating our store footprint and formats across the country. After careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our Dorval store, located at 400 Dorval Avenue, Dorval Quebec H9S 3H7, on July 17, 2026.

While these decisions are never easy, they are part of our ongoing efforts to ensure we meet the evolving needs of our customers and position our business for continued growth in Quebec. We remain deeply committed to the Quebec market and have plans to open new stores in the province as part of our planned $6.5B investment in our store and supply chain footprint. Customers in Dorval will continue to be well-served by our nearby stores, including Pointe-Claire, Kirkland, LaSalle, Jean Talon and Saint-Laurent, and through Walmart.ca, with delivery available in as fast as two hours.”

Earlier in April, Walmart confirmed it would close locations in Pointe-aux-Trembles and Côte-des-Neiges as part of a broader review of its operations.

Reports also indicate Walmart plans to renovate at least 18 stores in the near term. The company operates more than 70 stores across Quebec and employs over 12,000 people.
