Montreal artist’s Habs-inspired track gains momentum in playoff build-up

A new hockey-inspired track is skating its way into Montreal’s fan culture — and it’s striking a chord as Canadiens playoff energy builds across the city.

Montreal-based artist DIONY$IO$ has released “Bleu Blanc Rouge,” a bilingual track inspired by the Montreal Canadiens that is gaining momentum across the city, including recent airplay inside the Bell Centre.

DIONY$IO$ said his path into music began as a passion project that gradually evolved as listeners began responding to his sound.

“It started off just for fun. And then eventually, I knew that I had to take it seriously because I saw that people were actually starting to connect with my music and feeling it,” he said. “It became a hobby that turned into a passion. And it’s always something that I love and enjoy doing.”

For the Montreal artist, hockey has always been more than inspiration; it has been part of his upbringing and identity.

“Growing up as a kid, I’ve been playing hockey since I was three years old. So I’ve been on the ice. I think I learned how to skate properly before I could even learn how to walk properly,” he said. “Montreal lives and breathes hockey. So I knew that I had to bring that energy to the fans.”

He added that the timing of the release was intentional, aligning with the Canadiens’ push toward the postseason.

“Whether it’s bringing it to them before the games, during the games, or even after the games, it’s that energy that I had to bring to them. In Montreal, we’re known for hockey. So that energy, and especially now that they’re making the playoffs, I think it’s the perfect time to drop it. And it’s just perfect.”

Originally released in January, “Bleu Blanc Rouge” has taken on renewed momentum as playoff intensity builds around the Canadiens.

DIONY$IO$ said the song was built around the emotional rhythm of game nights in Montreal — from pre-game buildup to post-game atmosphere.

“What inspired me to make the song was honestly the energy that Montreal brings. I wanted to bring that energy that the fans bring to on game night.”

He added that the timing now gives the track additional meaning.

“With playoffs coming up, it brings that extra touch to it and it gives that vibe. I really wanted to connect with them because when Montreal plays, it’s like the whole city plays together.”

He said the goal was to reflect that shared identity across the city.

“Montreal has an energy that’s emotional, intense, and proud,” he said. “I wanted to turn that energy into the song.”

He added that the message behind the track is about unity whenever the Canadiens take the ice.

“We’re all making them achieve their goal. And we’re trying to get that Stanley Cup home.”

DIONY$IO$ describes “Bleu Blanc Rouge” as a high-energy track designed to match the intensity of Montreal hockey nights.

“I would describe it as a high energy, powerful, bilingual anthem,” he said. “I put it in English and in French just to get both languages because Montreal is bilingual.”

Since its release, the track has been gaining traction online and in public spaces tied to the team, something he says has exceeded expectations.

“Fans have been going crazy with it, supporting online, sharing it to their friends,” he said. “It’s even been playing inside the Bell Centre, outside the Bell Centre. It’s been on radio stations.”

For him, the response reflects a shared cultural moment as playoff energy builds across the city.

“It’s really getting the recognition that it should be getting right now,” he said. “And especially during playoffs, right now, I feel like it would be absolutely insane to create that hype for the fans and to build that culture around Montreal hockey.”

DIONY$IO$ also said the music video was designed to reflect the real-life energy of a Canadiens game-night experience.

“My videographer and I, we locked in,” he said. “We had a plan that we had to create it like a real life experience.”

He said the goal was to capture the atmosphere surrounding the Bell Centre and bring it into the visuals.

“When fans go outside the Bell Centre they hear the noise, they feel the connection, they see people, we have to bring it all together,” he said.

He also pointed to specific Montreal locations included in the video.

“I even added the ‘prochaine station: Lucien-L’Allier,’ because it’s a famous metro station when the Habs come play at the Bell Centre,” he said. “I wanted to connect with the fans through that.”

He said authenticity was central to the project.

“It honestly added such an important touch,” he said. “All those moments he had to capture them in a cinematic type of way. And to keep it authentic for the city.”

One of the most surreal moments for the artist came when he first realized his music was being played during a Canadiens game day.

“That moment has been so surreal because to this moment, I still feel like it’s not even true. Like it’s a moment that I’ll completely never forget. When you think about it, growing up as a fan, I’ve been always going to the Bell Centre and sitting at the same stands… And all of a sudden when you hear your song play inside the Bell Centre, it’s honestly incredible because it’s like a full circle moment,” he said.

“It just starts playing in front of over 21,000 people. It’s honestly insane.”

He said the experience reinforced his belief in persistence and purpose.

“It just showed me that working hard leads to like big opportunities. And I didn’t even do this for myself. I did it for the city. So I’m really thankful for it. And these moments just show me that anything is possible in life and that you just have to keep believing and keep pushing.”

As the city rallies behind its team, DIONY$IO$ says his message is simple: gratitude and belief.

“I just want to say thank you for everyone showing love,” he said. “Without you guys, it wouldn’t be possible.”

As playoff energy rises, he has one message.

“We’re taking it day by day, but I promise you guys let’s bring the Stanley Cup home,” he said. “We love you Montreal. Go Habs Go.”
