Quebec digital health record: decrease in activity expected

A decrease in clinical activity is expected in the two regions where the new digital health record will be tested starting May 9: Mauricie-Centre-du-Québec and the North Island of Montreal.

This was announced by Santé Québec during a technical briefing on Wednesday, in response to numerous concerns raised by professionals in the media regarding this ambitious digital transformation of the health-care network.

The president of the CIUSSS du Nord-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, Adelaide De Melo, explained that starting Monday, activity would decrease by 75 per cent compared to the usual volume, then by 50 per cent starting May 4 for two weeks, with a return to 75 per cent starting May 18 and a return to 100 per cent starting May 25.

However, officials assure that urgent or “important” activities, such as oncology, will not be reduced and that mitigation measures are planned.

Erika Bially, vice-president of information technology at Santé Québec, stated that the agency is ready for the May 9 launch and has no interest in changing that date.

The day before, in an interview, Health Minister Sonia Bélanger had reserved the right to veto the launch of the two pilot projects.
