$25K reward offered as hunt intensifies for Montreal suspect in Toronto mall shooting

Toronto police have increased the reward for information leading to the arrest of Kyle Douglas Prouse, a Montreal man wanted in connection with a sprawling series of robberies and break‑and‑enters across Ontario and Quebec — including the shooting of a mall security officer at Fairview Mall in North York last week.

At a news conference on Monday, Inspector Kristy Smith and Toronto Crime Stoppers Chair Sean Sportun announced a time‑limited reward of up to $25,000, available until June 30, 2026, for tips that lead to Prouse’s arrest.

Police were called to Fairview Mall at 10:05 a.m. on April 21 after reports of gunfire inside the shopping centre. Investigators say a man — now identified as Prouse — entered a jewellery store, stole merchandise, and was confronted by a member of the mall’s security team.

During that confrontation, the security officer was shot. He was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

The suspect fled in a white van, later abandoned near Shaughnessy Boulevard and George Henry Boulevard, then switched to a black Honda Accord and disappeared.

“Our city witnessed a brazen act of violence, a robbery that escalated into a senseless shooting involving a member of the Fairview Mall security team,” said Sportun. “This was not just an attack on a place of business; it was an attack on community safety.”

Police say Prouse, 53, is linked to a three‑year string of robberies and break‑ins targeting banks and jewellery stores in Toronto, the GTA, and Quebec, including four reported incidents in 2026. The incidents include:

CityNews confirmed Prouse is also connected to a $235,000 jewellery heist and a related auto theft in Durham Region in August 2023. Police believe a stolen vehicle was used in that break‑and‑enter.

Police say Prouse has ties to Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, and warn he should be considered armed and dangerous.

“This is an individual who has demonstrated a pattern of escalating and dangerous behaviour,” said Smith. “We are concerned about the risk he poses to public safety.”

Prouse is described as standing between five-foot-six and five-foot-eight.

Investigators are appealing to anyone with information — including sightings, tips, or surveillance footage — to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

“Anyone who is assisting him, harbouring him, or helping him avoid arrest may face criminal charges,” Smith added. “This is a serious offence. If you have information, now is the time to come forward.”
