Premier Christine Fréchette wants to honour the memory of police officers who died while on duty.
Fréchette announced Monday in Nicolet, where the provincial police academy, l’École nationale de police, is located, that overpasses would be named in honour of police officers who “made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their community.”
The first designation will be made in tribute to Sûreté du Québec (SQ) officer Maureen Breau, who died during an operation in 2023.

An overpass near Rue des Prairies in Trois-Rivières, close to the SQ headquarters, will be named after the late officer.
Signs will be installed near the overpasses to honour the memory of the fallen officers.
“A strong nation is also a nation that remembers. The police officers who fall in the line of duty have chosen to serve Quebec to the very end, at the risk of their lives,” the premier emphasized in a statement.
“We have a collective duty to honour their courage, their dedication, and the immense sacrifice they made to protect our communities.”
Sgt. Breau, 42, was stabbed to death by Isaac Brouillard Lessard, a 35-year-old man with a long history of mental health issues. He was shot and killed by the officer’s colleagues moments after the attack, which took place in Louiseville, in the Mauricie region, on March 27, 2023.
