Surrey police respond to assault

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) has yet to confirm what prompted a massive police presence at a home in the Whalley neighbourhood Tuesday evening.

Dozens of officers and emergency crews responded to what police have so far described as a “report of an assault between a number of people” at a residence near 133A Street and 89 Avenue.

Sgt. Lindsey Houghton says the assault affected people who were “possibly roommates and people who know each other.”

“There are several people with varying injuries who have gone to the hospital, but nothing appears life-threatening,” he said in a written statement.

Police add that the incident is neither gang-related nor extortion-related.

“There has been no shooting,” Houghton explained.

Images from the scene show multiple BC Emergency Health Service (BCEHS) ambulances and police crews on scene.

Videos show paramedics carrying at least two people on stretchers and transporting them to the hospital.

1130 NewsRadio has reached out to the BCEHS for more information.

Houghton says the SPS will release more details Wednesday morning.
