Kamloops man goes to police detachment for non-criminal matter, gets arrested instead

Mounties in Kamloops say a man was arrested and is facing charges after a visit to local police led to an arrest and seizure.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on May 15, the man went to the Kamloops RCMP detachment for an unrelated — non-criminal — matter.

“The man was subsequently observed by police entering a white Honda CR-V with an alleged regulatory infraction, instigating a vehicle stop,” police said.

“However, the driver allegedly fled in the vehicle through a residential area, evading police.”

Two days later, police found the CR-V near the suspect’s home.

They discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen in Kamloops on May 2.

“Additional investigation further established an alleged link between the suspect and the vehicle, culminating in his arrest,” the RCMP said.

“During the arrest as well as the subsequent search of the vehicle, police seized keys to the stolen CR-V, a suppressor, and other items.”

The man has been charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance, flight from police, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of a prohibited device knowing it is unauthorized, and mischief in relation to the lawful use of property.

He was remanded into custody and is set to appear in court May 26
